Interior with hand-laid red-brick archway and feature wall under exposed timber rafters, recent work

Twenty years
on the trowel

I started laying brick at seventeen. Twenty years on, I’ve worked all over Australia and a few jobs overseas. Now I’m home in Darwin.

The story

How I work

I started laying brick at seventeen. Apprenticed on residential builds, then moved into commercial and architectural work. The further I got into the trade, the more I wanted the jobs other tradies wouldn’t quote on.

Twenty years on, I’ve laid brick across most of Australia and on a few overseas projects. Different climates, different bricks, different engineers, but the same principle every time: course-by-course, every joint set by eye, every line plumb.

I run a small crew out of Darwin now, serving Greater Darwin, Palmerston, and the rural and remote Top End. New builds, extensions, renovations, retaining, cyclone-rated block, and the architectural feature work I’m proudest of.

The free-hand curve is the work that distinguishes a bricklayer from a craftsman. No string lines, no set-out templates. Just eye and hand, course by course.

Approach

Every job laid by hand

  • Hand-laid only

Every brick, every block, every stone laid by me or a tight crew I trust. No subcontracting out the work and putting my name on it.

  • One quote, line by line

Itemised quotes after a free site visit. Materials, labour, footings, finishing. No ballparks, no extras at the end you didn't see coming.

  • Engineer-spec from day one

Cyclone-rated work to engineer specification. I'll work direct with your engineer, or bring one in if you don't have one.

  • Clean site, every day

Site swept at knock-off. Tools away. Bricks stacked. The same standard on a one-day fence as on a three-month build.

  • Photos through the build

If you're remote or busy, I'll send progress photos every few days. You'll see the wall come up.

  • Architect-friendly

Twenty years of working with architects and designers. Send the spec and I'll flag anything that won't build before you commit.
